Make A Picture Memory Wall by Autumn Lockwood

If you are like most families, you most likely have dozens of photos sitting around your home, stored in albums, boxes and drawers. Even if you have your photos safely stored, you probably do not look at them and enjoy them as much as you should. Instead of simply storing all these precious pictures out of sight, why don't you use them to make an attractive photo memory wall in your home? If you want your photo wall to end up looking as great as the ones you see in your friend's homes, just stick to the tips below.

Picking the Wall Space

Selecting the perfect wall to display your photos in the best way possible is a crucial part of the process. You will probably want to select a wall that will be large enough to give you lots of room for your pictures. Finding a prominent spot can be a good way to make sure that your photos will be seen as much as they really should. You may wish to select a family room wall, a wall space in a hallway, or perhaps a wall in your living area. Try to stay away from walls that get a lot of sunlight since the sun's rays might fade your photos.

Choosing Your Photographs

Because families usually have such big photo collections, it can sometimes be challenging to choose the photos they wish to put on display. If you would like to find good photos for your wall, you might want to start with a look through your albums in addition to the school picture frames around your house. Actually, even if you have one or more pictures already framed, you might want to consider adding them to the wall. In most cases, if a picture was special enough to put in a frame in the first place, you can be assured that it would be a good addition to your photo wall. If any of the photos you select are delicate or vintage, you might choose to scan and print out copies of them to exhibit on the wall. After all, you certainly would not want an important original to become damaged.

Selecting Your Picture Frames

Picking just the right picture frame to display your photos to their best advantage is also an important part of the procedure. If you would like the wall to look more formal, it may be nice to pick frames that match or look similar in some way. However, if you are trying for a more casual and eclectic look, you can feel free to use whichever frames appeal to you most.

Making the Wall Arrangement

It may sometimes be a bit difficult to decide on the perfect wall arrangement. Try laying out your arrangement on your floor before you make holes in the wall that you don't need to. Simply measure off a section of the floor to the overall dimensions of your wall, using masking or painting tape. Then, organize the framed photos in the area until you decide on the perfect set up. Or, make the process even easier by cutting and taping wrapping paper together to form the size and shape of your wall. Put your pictures in the order you want on the wrapping paper, and then use a pencil to trace around the outside of the frames. Then all you have to do is tape that paper up on the wall and then use it as a guide. Tap the nails right into the wall directly through the paper. Then, simply remove the paper so that you can hang the photos in the correct positions on the very first try.
