Proper KEYWORD Selection You Should Know

The very first thing you need to do when you start your keyword selection is ensure you know your searchers. That is the best website advice you can get. The most important thing to consider is, are we looking to go for something with the most number of searches? The biggest number of searches doesn't necessarily mean that is the keyword we would like to be going after. You want to become familiar with purchasing phrases versus skimming phrases. If somebody's on Google and they are typing in camera, they are more of a browser. They don't know what it is they need yet. They are just doing a bit of initial research to find it out.

When you compare that to someone who's looking for example, the Sony Handycam hdrs11, once they have typed in that, they have pretty much obviously raised their hand in Google and announced, this is what I am trying to find. Those type of keywords. Although you'll get a lot less competition on those and you'll get a lot less searches, they can actually pay off. They are the ones that are the purchasing phrases and they will convert at a far higher rate.

Whenever we do any sort of optimization both on page and thinking about the landing page, I always like to put myself in the shoes of the person doing the search. So I think that is a really smart way to think about things, where you say, if someone is typing this keyword into Google, imagine yourself sitting in their body, imagine yourself thinking what they were thinking and what is it that they are looking for? Basically you want to meet them at the point that they are already in their mind. It is like you want to join the conversation that is already in their head. They’re having a conversation when they are typing something in and you want to make sure that you meet them at that point.

Site structure and the way we actually choose these keywords is important. This is the way that we structure a site. Let’s say we have a new client who is coming on board who we are about to work with. The first thing that we do is, we build a big list of keywords. We look at what the competition is doing, we find out as much as we can. You’re looking to build a big list of keywords and then what we do is we take those keywords and we build a structure.

There are 3 tiers. The first tier is just going to be your primary cash phrase. Your 2nd tier, these are far more almost like category pages. An example is the store Planet thirteen. Let's say the primary money phrase for Planet 13 is band product. That is a wider term. Typically talking when I am going for those first tier, it is like, if you had a magic wand and you'd rank it, what word would that be? That is going to be that term.

The second tier sometimes can be more competitive or less competitive than the money phrase. For this money phrase I try and do a research in my head. It is a little bit of an art and science when it comes to keyword selection. I attempt to think about the most traffic I'm able to get that is also going to be quite highly targeted. Someone typing in band merchandise is hunting for music related things. So if I can provide them with that, then that may be a good phrase there.

The class pages can be similar phrases, but at least on Planet thirteen, they are more classes, stuff like band t-shirts, band stickers, band patches, they're more like classes.

The third tier is where you break out and this is where you have long tail phrases. This is where you have the full product name. That might be Metallica black t-shirt or something like that. That’s the structure.

SEO really is a game of lasers as stated in a Leslie Rohde interview. He knows his SEO material. He talks about the idea of SEO as very much targeted. Each word that we’re going after, you’re really just going after that one phrase. It’s not like we’re shining a flashlight and we’re going to pick up all of these different phrases.

Each page that we create is very much just a little laser target that we’re going after. That’s partly why big sites win, because they’ve got so many targets out there.

Imagine that every page that you create is a ticket in the search engine lottery. The more tickets you have, the greater chance you have of winning the search engine lottery and getting a client to come and visit your website. The more pages the better. These are the benefits when you do your keyword selection the right way. A Market Samurai review will teach you the proper ways of selecting your keywords.
